The Differences Between Hardwood and Softwood For Deckings and Pergolas

Harwood is better to use for both deckings and pergolas. It is more expensive but it is well worth it. Please see below the differences between hardwood and softwood and see for yourself why hardwood is better to use when constructing deckings and pergolas:

Hardwood

 - hardwood comes in various colours so you can mix and match which wood with your home to create a beautiful deck or pergola

- hardwood lasts longer and tends to be better out in the weather. It can shrink a little but still maintains its shape and doesn't twist

- hardwood is generally rot resistant depending on how much you care for it

- hardwood is a stronger wood and will last longer

Softwood

 - softwood (treated pine) comes in one colour so if you want to change the colour you will need to stain it

- softwood typically has half the life span of hardwood

- softwood will twist and buckle a lot easier in the weather

- softwood can't hold as much weight becuase it's soft
